Can I substitute for goat yogurt?

Hello Ana,

I just purchased your book about a week ago and I am loving it! I am a vegetarian so I eat yogurt regularly with maple syrup. I choose goats yogurt because it is a bit more ethical than cows. Do you think I will get the same benefits/results? Also, I drink kombusha tea every morning, which I know also contains probiotics. Hope to hear from you soon!

Best,
Salman

  1. Hi Salman,

Yes, goat yogurt is an excellent choice! Make sure that it has live active cultures to get the full benefits.
Regarding the kombucha tea, it has too much sugar, as this is the medium used to promote the growth of probiotic bacteria. And as much as it is a great source of probiotics, I believe other foods are much better for you, such as kim chi and sauerkraut.

    Thank you for writing.

    Salud!

  2. Hello again Ana,

Thank you so much for taking the time to message me and answer my question. I'm happy that I can continue to eat goats yogurt. I have one more question though (last one, I promise).

Is it fine to eat yogurt with either pure maple syrup or honey in general? (I don't seem to like plain yogurt or with fruit). I usually only stick to sugars that are naturally occurring not refined sugars

Also regarding the kombucha, I usually just drink it plain (it doesn't have sugar added, it's just the tea) however their is one brand that i also like that contains organic mango puree (unpasteurized). Would that be fine, or should I cut the kombucha out for now? I was just a bit confused because in the book you mention that it is good to have fruit with yogurt because of the good bacteria, so I wasn't sure if the same applies with the bacteria in the tea.

    Best,
    Salman

  3. Hello Salman,

Choose raw honey for your yogurt.

Regarding kombucha: is it just the tea leaves or is it the fermented kind?

If it is fermented, it will usually have sugar added, as this is the medium (food) given to the bacteria to feed on and grow. I do not recommend drinking this tea if you're cleansing your body. Later on it is OK. Read the ingredients. If it is just the green tea leaves, then go ahead and enjoy!

Thank you for your questions. That shows commitment!

    All the best,

    Ana
